A Simple Farewell,
Arranged With the Care
We offer a direct cremation that is simple in nature but never impersonal in care, arranged from our offices by a team that is part of the community.
Direct Cremation — What It Means, and Whether It Is Right for You
A direct cremation is a cremation without a formal service or mourners present. It is a private process and at Waterhouse Funeral Directors & Heathfield Funeral Directors your loved one is cared for with complete respect. Many families may hold a gathering at home, a quiet service at the local church, or a walk to a place that held meaning in the days or weeks that follow, allowing them to honour the memory of there loved one as they feel right.
We know that choosing a direct cremation is rarely a simple decision. Some families select it because it reflects a loved one’s wish for a quiet, no fuss farewell. Others are guided here by unexpected circumstances and may feel uncertain about what to do. If that is where you find yourself, please come and talk with us. We are here to help you understand all your options, never to pressure you into one.
Why Local Care Matters
In close-knit communities surrounding Burwash, and Heathfield, there is no such thing as an anonymous provider. We know our neighbours, and reputation is built entirely on trust, over generations,
While some large national companies offer fixed, distant packages, we provide a deeply personal alternative. When you choose us, your loved one never leaves our care. From the initial collection until the ashes are safely returned to your family, every step is managed locally by our dedicated team. We are also able to include additional services with a direct cremation at reasonable charges.
Our chapels of rest is local. Our staff are local. We know Wealden Crematorium in Horam and the churchyards of this parish. We know the families we serve, many of them across several generations. We have been serving our community for a hundred years and have looked after local families across multiple generations. The weight of that century-long responsibility is something we carry proudly every day.
That is what we offer that no national provider can.
